Special playoff report
SWB, with a 3 run outburst in the second inning, and a solid outing by Romulo Sanchez, drew frist blood in the first round of the International League playoffs with a 3-0 win over the Gwinnett Braves. The Yankees scored all the runs they would need in the second on a bases loaded single by Colin Curtis that scored 2 runs. Chris Stewart drove in the other run with a single. A key play in the inning was an error by Gwinnett's catcher, Alvin Colina, on a sac bunt attempt by John

The season is over in Scranton
As the fireworks start here at PNC Field, the SWB regular season comes to a close on a losing note. The Red Wings scored 3 runs off Amaury Senit in the top of the 9th and held on to defeat SWB 7-5. That's it from Scranton. See you at the playoffs!

Bottom of the second
I meant to say that Russo's homer tied it at 4-4. The Yankees added another run in the 7th when Freddy Guzman scored all the way from first on a wild pitch and the pitcher failed to cover home. It is now SWB 5, Red Wings 4.

Austin Jackson removed from the game
In the top of the fifth Austin Jackson was taken out of the game. He had 2 singles on the day and I have no explainaton for the substitution. Meanwhile, Rochester re-takes the lead in the frame on a Dustin Martin two run homer.

Top of the third and two out thunder!
And I don't mean Trenton! Chris Stewart started the inning by getting hit by a pitch. Then with two outs, Austin Jackson singled and John Rodriguez doubled both runners home. The score is tied at 2.

Top of the second
A walk to Justin Huber, a double by Danny Valencia, groundout by Brock Peterson, and a double by Matt Macri and Rochester has the early lead, 2-0.

SWB pitching change & lineup
I listed Romulo Sanchez as the starting pitcher, but it is actually Cory Arbiso. The rest of the lineup looks like this: Kevin Russo, 2B Freddy Guzman, LF Austin Jackson, CF John Rodriguez, DH Cody Ransom, 3B Colin Curtis, RF Eric Duncan, 1B Reegie Corona, SS Chris Stewart, C

The last regular season game will be Shelley-less
Well, here we are at the end of the third exciting season with the SWB Yankees. And for the third straight season, the team has made it to the playoffs. This season has had it's high and low points, but despite the problems with drainage and scheduling, minor league baseball here in Scranton remains one of the best entertainment bargains around. With plans being made to replace the field and make enhancements to the park for fan enjoyment, the 2010 season should be even bette
