Durham Sweeps Scranton to take the Governor's Cup
John Jaso's RBI double broke a 2-2 tie in the top of the 12th and the Durham Bulls held on to complete a sweep of the Governor's Cup playoffs. The final was Durham 3, SWB 2. Eric Wordekemper took the loss for SWB. Well, that's the long and the short of it. It has been a long night and a great season. Too bad it had to end this way. If it's any consolation to SWB fans, the Governor's Cup is still in Scranton Police custody after being smashed into pieces by a disgruntled fa

SWB 2, Durham 2 after 7 1/2
A correction to Nova's line...Kroenke allowed both inherited runners to score so Nova is charged with both. A double steal and singe by Desmond Jennings tied the game in the top of the 8th.

Nova out in the 8th, Kroenke in
Ivan Nova left the game to a standing ovation and it was well deserved. He pitched his heart out tonight and left after a walk and bloop single and no one out. His line: 7.0 2 0 0 2 5.

SWB, backs against the wall
SWB leads Durham 2-0 through 6. Ivan Nova is pitching the game of his AAA career shutting the Bulls down on 1 hit and striking out 5. Cody Ransom drove in both SWB runs. The Bulls have a 2-0 lead in the best of 5 series. Oh, and it is freezing here tonight!

Durham draws first blood
Romulo Sanchez pitched a decent game but Scranton left their bats at PNC Field as the Durham Bulls took the first game of the Governor's Cup playoff, 4-1. Jeremy R. Hellickson got the win for Durham. The big inning was the 6th, when the Bulls, who already had a on run lead, scored 3 runs. The big blow was a bases loaded single by Michel Hernandez off Zach Kroenke who had relieved Sanchez. Ironically, this is the spot where Anthony Claggett, who was DFA'd today, would have p

Scranton advances to Governor's Cup Finals
The final score from PNC Field is SWB 12, Braves 3. Jose Valdez got the save. It's been a long night, but it was worth it. Governor's Cup starts Tuesday.

McAllister's night is done
With one out in the fifth. Anthony Claggett in. McAllister pitched a better game than his line would indicate: 5.1 8 3 3 1 3. Nice job for his first AAA start and in a playoff situation. Meanwhile, the Braves added a run in the 6th and SWB added 2 in the bottom of the frame and the score is 9-3 Yanks.f

SWB Game update
Well, a much better game tonight as SWB has taken a 7-2 lead over the Braved through the top of the fifth. SWB scored 2 in the third on RBI singles by Freddie Guzman and Austin Javkson. Then in the fourth SWB scored 5 runs, the big blow in that inning a bases loaded RBI single by Juan Miranda. The other runs came on fielder's choices and a hit batsman with the bases loaded. Meanwhile, Zach McAllister was cruising through 4 2/3 innings with no runs on 4 hits. But

SWB loses game 3 to the Gwennett Braves, 8-5
Well, it didn't get any better after the fifth inning. The bullpen (except for Wordkemper) continued the run parade and the SWB Yankees never scored after the 4th. So far, the road team has won every game, so we go to game 4 tomorrow night at 7:00 PM. I can't hang this one on Igawa, as bad as he was, because the Yankees did come back. The bullpen was not what we have seen the last two nights. SWB leads the best of 5 series 2-1.

Things turn ugly!
We arw half way through game 3 and if SWB is going to get the sweep they are going to have to hit their way to it. Things started out OK when Kei Igawa struck out the side in the top of the first and Freddie Guzman hit a lead off homer in the bottom. But then the real Kei Igawa showed up and suddenly Gwinnett had a 5-1 lead in the top of the third. In that inning he gave up a walk, six singles and a wild pitch. UGLY! Juan Miranda got 3 back in the bottom of the fr

Yankees take a 2-0 lead over Gwinnett
The SWB Yankees, behind a strong pitching effort by Ivan Nova, took a commanding 2-0 lead over the Gwinnett Braves in the best of five series. The final score, SWB 4, Gwinnett 1. Ivan Nova had one of his best outings of the year, going 7 innings, allowing only one run and striking out 5. As evidence that he was on his game, he had a groudout/flyout ratio of 15-1. Not too shabby! Once again, the bullpen was solid, shutting out Gwinnett for the second consecutive night. Zach

Special playoff report
SWB, with a 3 run outburst in the second inning, and a solid outing by Romulo Sanchez, drew frist blood in the first round of the International League playoffs with a 3-0 win over the Gwinnett Braves. The Yankees scored all the runs they would need in the second on a bases loaded single by Colin Curtis that scored 2 runs. Chris Stewart drove in the other run with a single. A key play in the inning was an error by Gwinnett's catcher, Alvin Colina, on a sac bunt attempt by John

The season is over in Scranton
As the fireworks start here at PNC Field, the SWB regular season comes to a close on a losing note. The Red Wings scored 3 runs off Amaury Senit in the top of the 9th and held on to defeat SWB 7-5. That's it from Scranton. See you at the playoffs!

Bottom of the second
I meant to say that Russo's homer tied it at 4-4. The Yankees added another run in the 7th when Freddy Guzman scored all the way from first on a wild pitch and the pitcher failed to cover home. It is now SWB 5, Red Wings 4.

Austin Jackson removed from the game
In the top of the fifth Austin Jackson was taken out of the game. He had 2 singles on the day and I have no explainaton for the substitution. Meanwhile, Rochester re-takes the lead in the frame on a Dustin Martin two run homer.
