Ivan Nova vs John Halama
Posted on 19 July 2009 by Zod
It’s warm and overcast for this last game of the current home stand. Today we will have an opportunity to see Yurendell de Caster play third. He has already shown the ability to hit.
This afternoon’s lineup:
Kevin Russo, DH
Ramiro Pena, 2B
Austin Jackson, CF
Shelley Duncan, RF
Juan Miranda, 1B
Francisco Cervelli, C
Colin Curtis, LF
Yurendell de Caster, 3B
Doug Bernier, SS
Nova impressive in the first

2 K’s and a weak ground ball. Hard sinker, curve, and changeup all working today!
Tough day for Cervelli behind the plate today
Posted on 19 July 2009 by Zod
So far we have had two wild pitches, he was hit in the chest protector on a cross up pitch, and nearly threw the ball into center on a steal attempt. That one was saved by the second baseman backing up the play.
Still no score.
Nova not good

Nova’s sinker is not sinking. He gave up a long RBI double to Reid Gorecki who later scored on Kelly Johnson’s long triple. Braves lead in the 3rd, 2-0.
SWB comes back

In the bottom of the second Colin Curtis singled, scored on Juan Miranda’s double. Miranda was sacrificed to 3rd and scored on Kevin Russo’s sac fly. SWB 2, Gwennett 2.
Braves hitting Nova hard

The Braves scored 2 runs on a bases loaded double by Brian Barton and another on a bases loaded single by Clint Simmons. Barton was thrown out trying to score. Braved 5, SWB 2.
Mike Dunn in, Miranda out

Well, we get to see some versatility from de Caster as he moves to first and Nunez takes over at 3rd. Juan Miranda was hurt when he collided with Cervelli going after a bunt pop-up.
Still Braves 5, SWB 2.
Cervelli-Bono!

A solo shot on the bottom of the 2nd pulls the Yanks to within 2. Braves 5, SWB 3.
Albaladejo in, Cervelli hurt

Cervelli was hit with a foul tip and went down. The trainer is out and it appears he will stay in the game.
It’s over in Scranton
Posted on 19 July 2009 by Zod Braves win 5-3. This was another poor start by the SWB Yankees in a row. I can’t help but to part of the blame for the last two days on that horrible call by the home plate umpire Friday night. He threw out Towers in the 2nd inning for no good reason and caused the Yankees to use up the bullpen to piece together the game. The rest of the weekend they were short.
