Casey Fossum vs, Jose Contreras

Posted on 13 May 2009 by Zod

Yes, tonight we are offered the battle of what-might-have-beens: Jose “If Only I Could Throw Strikes As A Yankee” Contreras vs, Casey “I’m What the Diamondbacks Consider Fair Compensation For Curt Schilling” Fossum. Enough venom. Tonight’s lineup: Doug Bernier, SS Eric Duncan, LF Todd Linden, RF Justin Leone, 3B Juan Miranda, 1B Austin Jackson, CF Chris Malec, DH Chris Stewart, C Luis Nunez, 2B Notably missing again tonight are Shelley Duncan and Kevin Russo. 35.1 scoreless innings and counting.

The Fossum Flop

This is the first time I saw this pitch. Fossum threw it to strike out Don Lucy in the 2nd. The pitch came in so slow Lucu swing twice. BTW, Contreras still can’t throw strikes. No score.

Charlotte scores first, naturally…

A bases loaded groundout by Javier Castillo and an RBI single by Don Lucy and Charlotte leads 2-0. Fossum has 6 K’s.

SWB may never score again this year!

Every inning we set a new franchise record. At the end of 5 here we are at 40.1 innings without a run. Still 2-0, Charlotte.

SWB shut out AGAIN for 4th consecutive game!

Posted on 13 May 2009 by Zod

Tonight, the SWB Yankees were shut out for the fourth game in a row by the Charlotte Knights 2-0. It was also their 5th straight loss. They have not scored for a franchise record 44.1 innings. Their last run was in the 3rd inning of Saturday’s game. Casey Fossum (1-1, 1.78) took the loss and Jose Contreras (1-0, 0.0) was the winner. Both Fossum and Contreras pitched very well, but unfortunately there is no way to win in baseball without scoring a run. Austin Jackson had a hit, a walk, and a strikeout. This team is hurting with three of their best offensive stars out of action, Shelley Duncan (shoulder), John Rodriguez (hand), and Kevin Russo (hammy). We will try to break the spell tomorrow night.
