Chien-Ming Wang vs. Wes Whisler

Posted on 12 May 2009 by Zod

The SWB Yankees return home today after an 8 game road trip that ended with the first three game losing streak since last July. Tonight, Chien-Ming Wang will take the mound for the Scranton team in a rehab start that will help determine when he will be returning to the Yankee rotation. Good luck, Chien! Pitching for Columbus is Wes Whisler. A belated happy Mother’s Day to Whisler’s mother. The weather is fair, but very cool. Tonight’s SWB Lineup: Doug Bernier SS Eric Duncan LF Todd Linden RF Justin Leone 3B Juan Miranda 1B Austin Jackson CF Chris Malec DH Chris Stewart C Luis Nunez 2b

Wanger set them down on 5 pitches. 2 ground balls and a fly to deep center.

2 K’s and an infield pop in the 3td. Wangs changeup is outstanding tonight and he is throwing low 90’s. He is on a 100 pitch count and at this rate will get a complete game.

Wang hit with a line drive

Gave us all a scare in the 4th. He took a few warm ups and retired the side. He had another K.

Cashman made the trip to Scramton

Watching Wanger do his thing. His heart must have stopped when Wang got hit. Still no score here and Wang is in charge. No runs 2 hits in the top of the 5th. Another K.

Wang struggles in the 6th

And appeared to be limping slightly as he walked off the field. Still scoreless after 5 1/2. Claggett is warming in the SWB bullpen.

Wang is done after 82 pitches

The Yankees failed to score in the bottom of the 6th. That’s 32 consecutive scoreless innings. Claggett is in in the 7th.

The Clippers take the lead

…in the 8th on an error and am RBI single by Michael Restpvich. SWB 0, Clippers 1

It’s over in Scranton Charlotte 1, SWB 0

I guess you are shocked because all night I kept calling Charlotte “Columbus”. I have no idea why I had Columbus on my mind. Anyway, Wanger looked good tonight, his best pitches were his slider & changeup. He hit low 90’s tonight so Cash should be encouraged. Chien did walk with a slight limp when he left after the 6th. Game notes: This is SWB’s 4th consecutive loss. This is SWB’s 3rd consecutive shutout loss, a franchise first. They have not scored in 35 1/3 innings. This team really missed Kevin Russo and Shelley Duncan.
