Eric Hacker vs. Chris Walters

Posted on 03 May 2009 by Zod

Another lousy NEPA day, cloudy and cool (56), with the threat of rain. Oh, and still no WiFi here at the park, so posting updates will be a challange with slow 3G. Eric Hacker makes his 2nd AAA start today, In his last start vs. Lehigh Valley on April 28 he gave up 5 runs on 5 hits in 6 innings, but he struck out 8. So, we will see if the jitters have gone. Todays lineup: Doug Bernier, SS John Rodriguez, DH Todd Linden, LF Shelley Duncan, RF Juan Miranda 1B Austin Jackson, CF Chris Malec 3B Chris Stewart, C Luis Nunez, 2B Neil: I will be watching for Ajax’ leg kick!

Hacker in the 2nd

Hacker got into a bit of trouble in the 2nd, giving up a 1 out double and hitting a batter, but a slick DP started by Luis Nunez got him out of it.

SWB 4, Norfolk 0

Miranda walked, Jackson singled, Malec singled scoring Miranda. Poor baserunning by Ajax overrunning 2nd got him in a rundown, Malec got to second and scored on Bernier’s single. Chris Stewart HBP, then John Rodriguez hit a long fly ball that Florentino got to but dropped when he hit and opened the door to the bullpen! That scored Bernier and Stewart. 4-0 SWB.

Hacker gave them all back.

In the top of the 3rd on 5 singles and a sac fly. SWB 4, Tides 4. They were all hit hard.

Top 4th, Tides take the lead

On 2 singles and a sac fly by Justin Christian. SWB 4, Tides 5. Nice throw by Ajax to catch the runner rounding 2nd in a rundown.

SWB regains the lead, 7-5

Stewart walked, Nunez singled, and Bernier hit a booming triple to center. Then with 2 out, Todd Linden got his 2nd hit of the day to score Bernier from 3rd. SWB 7, Tides 5.

And we are tied again…

…in the 7th on a Jeff Fiorentino HR off Eric Wordkemper. SWB 7, Tides 7.

Big hit by Ajax!

And the Yankees take the lead! Austin Jackson hit a 2 out double with Shelley aboard, then went to 3rd when Salazar could not pick up a wet baseball. SWB 8, Tides 7.

Brett Tomko is found

…in the 8th for Wordkemper. He promptly walked the first batter he faced. Tomko had not been seen since April 30.

Todd Linden is on FIRE!!!!!

Posted on 03 May 2009 by Zod

He just hit a bases loaded double in the 8th to put SWB ahead 11-7. His 4th hit of the game. Now, some notes on Linden: He has extended his hitting streak to a franchise record 18th game. This is the third game in a row he has at least 3 hits in the game. This is his 14th multi-hit game.

And it’s over in Scranton
