Swine (sans flu) are in town vs. Hacker

Posted on 28 April 2009 by Zod

Here in Scranton it’s a beautiful night for baseball. It feels like mid-summer, and our team is in mid-season form. Tonight, Eric Hacker will make his AAA debut against the former occupants of this stadium, the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. Now, I was a little concerned about this swine flu thing with these pigs coming to town, but they tell me they have been cleared by the CDC. So, tonight’s lineup: Doug Bernier, SS John Rodriguez, DH Todd Linden, LF Shelley Duncan, RF Juan Miranda, 1B Austin Jackson, CF Eric Duncan, 3B Chris Stewart, C Luis Nunez, 2B

Eric Hacker & a blast from the past

Eric Hacker struck out the side in the 2nd with a combo of changeups, sliders, and fastballs. One of his victims: John Mayberry Jr.

The Pigs took a 5-0 lead in the 3rd on a Jason Ellison HR with 2 out. Then an infield single, balk, infield single, single to right & a 3 run shot by John Mayberry Jr. and it’s 5-0 Swine.

…but that one bad inning did him in. Rodrigo Lopez, in the mean time, went 5 innings of shutout baseball. Still 5-0 Lehigh Valley leads.

J.B. Cox in in the 7th

The final line on Hacker: 6.0 5 5 5 0 8 He really did not have a bad outing here tonight, except for some cheap hits in the 5th and the Mayberry HR. In the mean time, Pigs added a run with a double & single in the 7th off Cox and lead 6-0.

SWB loses 6-0

It’s all over here at PNC Field and the SWB Yankees lost their 3rd game (2nd at home) and are now 15-3. It is the first time they have been shut out this season. In fact, SWB has not been shut out in 70 games! Eric Hacker was very good, in my view, with the 5th inning being the only exception. Oh, and if you are wondering why the Yankees did not consider Eric Duncan for third base, he hit into 3 double plays tonight. Game StoryRecapBox
