Dallas Braden watch continues:

OAKLAND - Dallas Braden sent some signed memorabilia to Alex Rodriguez as a good-will gesture, giving A-Rod a ball, T-shirt and poster from his perfect game. Braden even wrote a special message on the poster, showing the sense of humor the chatty pitcher is known for inside his clubhouse. "Dear Alex, here's the poster you requested," Braden wrote, according to the San Francisco Chronicle. "I think you're right, it will look great over your mantel. ... I know you realize it's all in fun."

Good for Braden. I've been critical of Braden in this space because, well, he's been very easy to criticize. Heck, his grandmother is easily criticized. But after watching Braden pitch a perfect game and hearing the story about his upbringing, you have to remind yourself that these stories can always use a bit of context. The context of Dallas Braden's life is pretty complicated. That he's brought himself to this level of playing is a testament to his drive as a person. Maybe Braden has learned to laugh at himself a bit more. It makes living life a lot easier. And here's hoping ARod returns the favor and sends Braden a gift of his own.
